Bone grafting during implantation

Implantation is the best way to restore lost teeth.

Why can't everyone do it?

  •  The most common contraindication is a deficiency of bone tissue at the site of the intended implantation.
  •  It is the bone tissue that holds the implant. It must be surrounded by it on all sides by at least 2 mm.
  •  If the implant is inserted into bone tissue of insufficient volume, a recession occurs within a few years, which eventually leads to inflammation and destruction of bone tissue and periodontitis. The implant may be rejected.

Causes of bone deficiency in the patient:

  • The bone is not loaded with work (chewing). The bone tissue under the bridge is particularly rapidly atrophying.
  • The rate of decrease is individual for each patient
  • The bone was injured during removal
  • The removal of an inflamed tooth was constantly postponed
  • The tooth was lost due to serious gum problems.

Bone reconstruction is the most important area of surgery at the Corona Dental Clinic.

Methods:

  • Transplantation of the patient's own bone or bone block (Autotransplantation). The material is taken from the area of the third molars (wisdom teeth) of the lower jaw.
  • Bone augmentation using synthetic materials that mimic natural bones.
  • Bone tissue augmentation using animal donor material (Xenotransplantation)
  • Barrier membranes. We use it to fix bone materials. As new bone tissue is formed, the membranes disappear on their own.

The main stages of the procedure:

  • We choose the material for bone restoration depending on the indications.
  • We make an incision in the gums to provide access to the bone buildup site.
  • With the help of special tools, we free up space for the insertion of bone tissue.
  • We install and fix the restoring material.
  • We apply stitches
  • Bone restoration is carried out in several stages, depending on the complexity of the situation.

The period of bone tissue survival after each stage is from one month to 6 months. After that, the next stage is performed or an implant is installed. There are no painful sensations during the operation. It is performed using anesthesia.
The bone survival rate in Barcelona is 97-98%. Before the procedure, a complete sanitation of the oral cavity is performed. The absence of bacteria improves engraftment.
