Corona Dental is a clinic in Barcelona, operating since 2016. An initial consultation with us costs €50 and lasts 30 to 60 minutes: you are examined, given an X-ray in our own X-ray room, your initial condition is recorded in photographs, and a treatment plan with prices by stage is drawn up. The main difference from an ordinary dentist consultation: in a single visit you are examined by three specialists — a therapist, a surgeon and an orthodontist — and you leave with one agreed plan, not with three referrals. We speak Russian, Spanish, English and Ukrainian.

What a dentist consultation includes
A dentist consultation is not a conversation or a quick look in the mouth, but a diagnostic visit following a protocol. Afterwards you have a document in your hands: what is happening in the oral cavity, what requires intervention, in what order and for how much money. It takes 30 to 60 minutes.

Questionnaire and conversation, 10 minutesYou fill in a questionnaire about your health: chronic conditions, medications, allergies, operations. The answers determine the choice of anaesthetic, whether interventions are admissible, and the approach to bleeding. The doctor then clarifies what patients don't consider important: whether it hurts at night or with cold, whether it appeared after treatment at another clinic.

Examination, 15–20 minutesThe doctor goes through every tooth, not just the one that bothers you: fillings, chips, cracks, marginal fit of old work, mobility, reaction to cold. Separately — the gums: pocket depth, bleeding, recession. The periodontium changes the plan more than caries: there's no point putting a crown on a tooth in inflamed bone. In parallel, the formula is dictated to the assistant — at the end you have a chart of the condition, not a verbal 'there's a hole here'.

Photo protocol, 5 minutesA series of photographs records the starting point: in six months neither the doctor nor the patient remembers how it was, and the photographs allow an objective comparison. They are also needed for coordinating with the laboratory if it comes to restorations.

How much a dentist consultation in Barcelona costs
We do not offer free initial visits: such a consultation is paid for by the treatment sold, and the doctor has an interest in prescribing more. A paid visit removes the conflict — it's possible to say honestly that nothing needs treating right now.

Which three doctors examine you at the consultation
The main difference of our dentist consultation: the patient is not examined by turns on different days, but by three specialists at once in a single visit.
Therapeutic dentistAssesses teeth and canals: caries, condition of fillings, live or devitalised teeth, what to treat and what to restore. Leads the visit and is responsible for the plan.
Surgeon-implantologistExamines roots and bone: which teeth are really worth keeping, which it makes no sense to retain, whether there is enough bone for an implant.
OrthodontistAssesses position and occlusion: whether teeth need to be moved before prosthetics, whether there will be room for the restoration, whether neighbours will shift after extraction.
In most clinics the initial visit is led by one doctor. While the case is simple, there's no difference. It appears where decisions are interconnected: the therapist treats the canal of a tooth that the surgeon would have considered hopeless, and that the orthodontist would have extracted for space in the arch. The patient pays for the canal, then for the crown, and a year later the tooth is extracted anyway.
When all three see the same picture on the same day, the plan is drawn up once and in full — you leave with an agreed sequence, not with three referrals.
What diagnostics are carried out at the consultation
The method is chosen by the doctor based on the clinical picture; most often a periapical X-ray is sufficient.

Which method is needed, the doctor explains before the X-ray: an extra examination means extra money and dose.
What the doctor looks at besides the diseased tooth
The patient comes with one complaint, but the cause is often away from the place that bothers them. At the examination several things are assessed that are usually not asked about.
- Dental occlusion. With uneven loading one tooth takes more than the rest — hence enamel cracks, chips of restorations and 'unexplained' sensitivity.
- Old work. A crown or filling ten years old may look decent and have a gap at the margin that plaque has been entering for years. That's visible on the X-ray, not by eye.
- Bruxism. Worn incisal edges, tooth imprints on the tongue, tension in the masticatory muscles. Without protection, a new restoration will last less long.
- The mucosa. Ulcers, whitish areas, changes on the tongue and cheeks. Some findings have nothing to do with teeth, but require monitoring.
- Wisdom teeth. Their position affects neighbouring teeth and the decision on orthodontics, even if they don't bother you.
- Hygiene. Where you don't reach is visible from the location of the plaque, and we say so concretely, not with 'brush better'.
Can the tooth be treated straight away at the consultation
Sometimes yes. It depends on the volume of work and whether there is free time in the schedule after your visit.

How treatment proceeds after the consultation
The dentist consultation is only the beginning, so it's worth saying how the work is organised afterwards.
- Booking by stages. The administrator draws up a schedule around your availability, and splits long work so you don't sit in the chair for three hours.
- Anaesthesia. Treatment under local anaesthesia, including computerised: the drug is administered slowly and in doses, the pressure in the tissues doesn't rise in a jump, the injection is barely felt.
- Explanation as we go. If you're calmer understanding what's happening, say so — the doctor and assistant comment on each action.
- Result control. After root canal treatment and fitting of structures, a control X-ray is taken — it stays in the chart as a reference point.
The doctor's opinion
Why I don't quote a treatment price over the phone
The most frequent question when booking: 'How much does it cost to treat a tooth?' Giving the figure before the examination is impossible, and it's not for want of willingness.
One tooth may need a ninety-euro filling or root canal treatment with a crown. The difference is several-fold, and outwardly the situations are identical — a dark spot on the chewing surface. What's really there is shown by the X-ray.
Even more often the opposite happens: the person comes to treat one tooth, and the X-ray shows a focus at the root apex of the neighbouring one — the one that never hurt. Chronic periodontitis runs without symptoms for years.
That's why I give figures only after the examination and X-ray — but then it's no longer an estimate, but a calculation, and it doesn't change during treatment.

Why go to a consultation if nothing hurts
The same consultation solves three different tasks, and its content depends on yours.
PreventiveFind what isn't yet making itself known. Caries between teeth, incipient periodontitis and a focus at the root apex go for months without symptoms, and at an early stage are treated far more easily and cheaply. The most rewarding reason to come and the rarest.
DiagnosticUnderstand what's happening when sensations exist but are vague: it aches somewhere unclear, it's unpleasant to chew on one side, it pulls towards evening. The task is to localise the source, not to wait until it manifests.
TherapeuticSolve a specific problem: it hurts, something has broken off, a filling has fallen out, a crown is loose. The consultation becomes the start of treatment, part of the work is possible the same day.
The difference in money between the first and third reasons is multiple: caries at the spot stage — one filling, the same tooth a year later — root canal treatment, another year later — crown or extraction.
When it's time to book with the dentist
Pain is a late signal: by that point the process has usually reached the nerve, and treatment comes out more expensive and longer. Reasons to come earlier:
- Dark spot on the chewing surface. On the outside the caries looks small, under the enamel the destruction is almost always wider.
- Reaction to cold or sweet that passes in seconds. Reversible stage: it can still be closed with a filling without treating canals.
- Chip, crack, fallen filling. Open tissues are destroyed faster than it seems.
- Bleeding when brushing. The norm is its absence. Regular blood means inflammation, not a hard brush.
- Bad breath with a healthy stomach. Usually plaque under the gum or a cavity with food residues.
- Tooth darkened after an old injury. A sign of nerve death; there may be no pain at all.
- More than a year since the last examination. The most frequent reason and the cheapest in consequences.
How to prepare and what to bring
There is no need to prepare specially for a dentist consultation: it's enough to brush your teeth before leaving. It's useful to bring a few things.
DocumentNeeded to open the chart: without patient data we don't keep documentation.
List of medicationsIf you take something constantly, write down the names. Especially important are medications affecting clotting and bisphosphonates.
Previous X-rays and reportsEven old ones and in another language: the X-ray reads independently of the language of the report and saves time and money on repeat diagnostics.
List of questionsIn the chair half the questions are forgotten. Write them down in advance — the doctor will answer before drawing up the plan.
You take anticoagulants, have recently had an operation or have a condition requiring a special approach — say so when booking, not in the chair: whether the consultation can be combined with treatment the same day depends on it.
First visit after moving to Spain
Many of our patients have recently arrived in Barcelona, and their first visit looks different.
- Long gap. From the last visit in your home country to the first in Barcelona, usually one to three years pass — asymptomatic processes have had time to develop.
- Unfinished treatment. Temporary filling, 'it'll hold for now', a removed appliance, a started course. We look at what's been done and say plainly what can be continued and what will have to be redone and why.
- Unclear what was done. No reports, the tooth under a crown, the chart empty. An X-ray settles the question in a minute: it shows whether the canals are treated and how.
- Different terminology. The same word means different procedures in different countries. We name things as they are designated in Spanish documents, so you understand your invoices and reports.
Bring everything you have. If the documents stayed in another country, on-site diagnostics will close the gaps.

After the consultation you have in your hands not a recommendation to 'get treated', but specifics.

When we're not the right fit
More honest to say before booking than after a wasted visit.
- You need treatment under sedation. We don't carry out sedation or general anaesthesia: that requires an anaesthetist and a separately equipped room. With pronounced dentophobia and a large volume of work, it's more correct to go straight to a facility with an anaesthesiology service.
- You need round-the-clock care. We work by appointment, hours are given below. At night and at weekends, contact the emergency service.
- You need maxillofacial surgery in hospital. Such interventions are performed in hospital, not in an outpatient clinic.
How to choose a dentist in Barcelona
The city is big, there are many clinics. A few signs by which a clinic can be assessed before you spend money and time.
- A paid consultation is more a plus than a minus. Where diagnostics are free, they're paid for by the treatment prescribed.
- The plan is given in writing. A verbal 'we need to treat this and that' cannot be verified or compared with another clinic.
- The X-ray is taken before the plan, not after. A plan without an X-ray is built on what's visible to the eye, and the main part is hidden.
- The doctor names also what must not be touched. If in the plan every tooth requires intervention — a reason to get a second opinion.
- The clinic states its health register number. In Spain this is a mandatory identifier for a medical facility. Ours — E08706004, Corona Syrrus S.L., CIF B67154021.
Follow-up visit and preventive examinations
When treatment is finished, the task changes: not to find a problem, but not to let one appear.
The base interval is once every six months, but not universal: with good hygiene the interval is extended, with periodontitis, orthodontics or a high tendency to caries it is reduced to three or four months. A scheduled examination with X-ray control costs the same as an initial visit, and is usually combined with hygiene.
Separately — monitoring after treatment: crowns, restorations and implants require checking of fit and surrounding tissues. Cheaper than redoing work that failed unnoticed.

Questions and answers
Is the X-ray included in the consultation price?
A periapical X-ray is included in the visit. CT is a separate item, €80–150 depending on the volume; it is prescribed by indication, and the doctor explains why.
I have an X-ray from another clinic. Can I skip a new one?
It depends on how recent and what type: if the X-ray is more than a year old, the picture may have changed, and a periapical X-ray of one tooth doesn't replace a panoramic one. Send what you have via WhatsApp before the visit — often it's enough to avoid paying twice.
Can the amount in the plan grow during treatment?
The calculation is done after the X-ray, so the main surprises are ruled out there. A revision is possible in one case: under an old filling or crown, more destruction has opened up than is visible on the X-ray. Then the doctor stops, shows the finding and agrees the change in advance.
If many problems are found, does everything need treating at once?
No. The plan is divided into stages with priorities: what threatens the tooth now, what can wait several months without consequences, and what relates to aesthetics. You can start with the first stage and return as circumstances allow.
Can I come just to check my teeth, with no complaints?
That's exactly what the consultation is for. Most findings are asymptomatic: caries between teeth, a focus at the root apex, incipient periodontitis. At an early stage all of them are treated markedly more easily.
Do the doctors speak Russian?
Yes. The clinic sees patients in four languages: Russian, Spanish, English and Ukrainian. You will receive the plan and explanations in whichever makes it easier for you to ask again and argue — consent to treatment is only meaningful if it's informed.
What to do if it hurts right now?
Write on WhatsApp: when it started, what hurts, whether there's swelling. We try to see acute pain at the nearest available time. The task is to remove the cause of the pain; planned treatment of the tooth is scheduled separately.
Must I be treated with you after the consultation?
No. The plan with prices stays with you and commits you to nothing, especially with costly treatment.
I was treated in another country, there are no documents. Is that a problem?
No. The X-ray will show what has been done with the canals and what state the roots are in, regardless of whether reports exist. If the documents do exist — bring them, even in an unfamiliar language: it will reduce the volume of diagnostics.
